12 Jobs That Will Not Exist in 20-30 Years

What education should you get to best position yourself for the coming decades? What line of work should you be in, and which professions have no future? Many jobs performed by humans today will be performed by smart robots in the near future. Here is a list of 12 professions that will most likely be obsolete, or at the very least out-of-date, by 2040.

1. Cashier: Many grocery stores already have self-operated check stands, but that's just a tradeoff between a cashier doing the job and you doing it yourself. In the future, check stands will be fully automated. Just leave your groceries on the belt and let the robot tally it up - many times faster than a human could. As a consequence, lines will be much less of a nuisance, as they become increasingly non-existent.

2. Mailman: Who sends snail-mail these days? Mostly nostalgic pen pals. While we may have a small segment left of the paper mail industry, most of the things we use the mail for either is transitioning to or has already moved completely online: Bills, public notices, and business-letters. Although, we'll still need package delivery (at least until nanotechnology enables us to send and download material objects like we send files today, in 30-40 years.)

3. Film processor: If you're passionate about sitting behind the movie theater controlling the movie reel, start blogging about it, because you'll never get a job as one.

4. Librarian: Libraries will soon look very different. Why have a library containing 50,000 paper made books when you can have 2 million of them in virtual form, which you can access with your library card and download to your kindle or iPad. There will not be any need for humans to process the lending of books.

5. Construction worker: Construction work can be a hazardous job, so why should humans risk their lives doing it? Insurance companies certainly won't cover a construction firm that that takes such unnecessary risks. Robotics are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and they'll be constructing buildings far more rapidly and much cheaper.

6. Soldier, fighter pilot: These professions will be obsolete for the same reasons as construction worker: Why risk human lives unnecessarily when robots are cheap and efficient?

7. Many (but not all) jobs in oil related industries: For fuel purposes, oil is far too expensive to extract, it pollutes, and we're running out of it. Many other fuel technologies (hydrogen, solar, fuel cell, to mention a few) have far greater potential in terms of cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability, and many new jobs will emerge in these sectors.

8. Receptionist: Artificial intelligence and robotics sciences are approaching a point where the intelligent robots we can make will match humans. These robots will be our faithful servants who perform the menial tasks, so humans can focus on developing themselves.

9. Waiter: 25 years down the road, a robot will hand you the menu and ask if you'd like to start with something to drink.

10. Security guard: Buy a strong, obedient robot that can see in the dark, never falls asleep on duty, and won't accept bribes, to protect your home or your business.

11. Maids: Wake up to eggs and bacon, ironed pants and a clean house, all provided by your unbelievably cheap, efficient AI-maid.

12. Car mechanic: Cars will become too technically complex to repair for humans. It's also cheaper to let a robot do it. Eventually, cars will fix themselves. They've already started driving themselves.

What other jobs do you think will be rendered obsolete in the coming decades? You can leave a comment below, and I'll add it to the list. The more we know about this, the better.

Do you Know that Being Passionate about Work Creates Happiness?

Work is perceived to be a punishment from God to men while in the Garden of Eden. You will find happiness if you`re passionate about your work. It will make you give your best to the society.

What about you being passionate about your work? Well…my bible tells me that work is a curse given to men. You and I were cursed by God to eat through sweating. That is the reason we find work to be tedious without any passion. We engage ourselves in various activities that leave us entirely exhausted and with less time for fun, romance and relaxation with our families.

We become unhappy in our lives and hate work to hell. We feel like not facing another day. We hate our bosses who pressure us so much to do things that we don't like doing. But do you agree with this sentiment? It is not absolutely true. You will notice why it's not true in this article as you continue reading it.

The kind of job you do defines whom you are. It gives you status and title in the society. No wonder when I meet with people and their second question they ask me is what I do for a living. Sometimes, some of us get less attention from people when we find ourselves in a group of professions. How do you feel when you're in such situation?

The jobs we do are supposed to provide for our needs but they may result to boredom and turn us from being happy to being unhappy due to stress. This is when we come to realize that the amount of money we get as salaries is far less to cater for our essential needs. Our expenses outweigh our salaries. We drag ourselves to work every each day yet we are running our lives in deficits.

Majority of employees who are in this situation feel like quitting their present jobs since their peanut salaries does not make any meaning in their lives. In order to overcome this unhappiness of work, you should not focus on your salary. There is more to be derived from your job that will lead to true happiness and satisfaction of work.

It will motivate you, take you to heights of high grounds, make others happy and appreciate you, free you from unnecessary worries, will make you feel like working throughout without stopping each day, and of all it will give you confident. Perhaps that is why you find some people spending many hours working without complaining.

Did you get what I was referring to? I am taking about passion. Passion makes you to perceive your work beyond the money you earn as salary in your job. It makes your life to be happy and the society will feel happy after rendering your services to them because it really makes you to give your best from the bottom of your heart. It drives your life to heights you never dreamed of once you realize it. It will make you realize that everything in this planet [earth] is not all about money.

How To Survive the Business of Living

Real is the person who does not define happiness as an absence of
problems. Surviving this business of living is a difficult ordeal at
times. How can we retain a healthy sense of humor and experience a
sense of balance in our lives? How can we realistically and yet with
a sense of wonder live fully and not just survive? How can we maybe
even celebrate this business of living? To answer some of these
questions we will focus on seven points.

Life Isn't Fair
No matter how good we get at this business of living, none of us gets
out of it alive. Frustrating, isn't it! Life doesn't always deal us a
good hand and doing our best doesn't always pay off with a positive.

Suffering
Growth is seldom easy and pain is an integral part of our human
condition. Everybody hurts. It's just that some of us are better
actors in hiding the pain we feel. Seldom if ever ... are all of our
ducks in a row.

Loneliness and Alikeness
Dr. Albert Schweitzer said, "We are all so much together, but we are
all dying of loneliness." We have all known moments of apartness and
empty loneliness. Embracing that reality is essential if we are to
cope effectively.

Personal Responsibility
We each have a choice to be either a death-peddler or a life-giver.
We are responsible for the choices we make. We can become most of
what we wish to be if we are willing to change and pay the price.

Self Worth
A poster reads, "God don't make junk." People are special and each
is, "Beautiful in his/her own way." We are more than our
accomplishments!

People Need People
Life is not meant to be lived in isolation. All of life occurs within
relationships. We need to know we are needed and so do those we need.

Mystery
Life is not just one big problem to be solved. Rather, it is a
mystery to be experienced, all the more meaningful and beautiful when
it is shared and celebrated with other persons who are committed
to "growing deep, not just tall!"

Deadly Sins of Negative Thinking

1. I will be happy once I have _____ (or once I earn X).

Problem: If you think you can't be happy until you reach a certain point, or until you reach a certain income, or have a certain type of house or car or computer setup, you'll never be happy. That elusive goal is always just out of reach. Once we reach those goals, we are not satisfied — we want more.

Solution: Learn to be happy with what you have, where you are, and who you are, right at this moment. Happiness doesn't have to be some state that we want to get to eventually — it can be found right now. Learn to count your blessings, and see the positive in your situation. This might sound simplistic, but it works.

2. I wish I were as ____ as (a celebrity, friend, co-worker).

Problem: We'll never be as pretty, as talented, as rich, as sculpted, as cool, as everyone else. There will always be someone better, if you look hard enough. Therefore, if we compare ourselves to others like this, we will always pale, and will always fail, and will always feel bad about ourselves. This is no way to be happy.

Solution: Stop comparing yourself to others, and look instead at yourself — what are your strengths, your accomplishments, your successes, however small? What do you love about yourself? Learn to love who you are, right now, not who you want to become. There is good in each of us, love in each of us, and a wonderful human spirit in every one of us.

3. Seeing others becoming successful makes me jealous and resentful.

Problem: First, this assumes that only a small number of people can be successful. In truth, many, many people can be successful — in different ways.

Solution: Learn to admire the success of others, and learn from it, and be happy for them, by empathizing with them and understanding what it must be like to be them. And then turn away from them, and look at yourself — you can be successful too, in whatever you choose to do. And even more, you already are successful. Look not at those above you in the social ladder, but those below you — there are always millions of people worse off than you, people who couldn't even read this article or afford a computer. In that light, you are a huge success.

4. I am a miserable failure — I can't seem to do anything right.

Problem: Everyone is a failure, if you look at it in certain ways. Everyone has failed, many times, at different things. I have certainly failed so many times I cannot count them — and I continue to fail, daily. However, looking at your failures as failures only makes you feel bad about yourself. By thinking in this way, we will have a negative self-image and never move on from here.

Solution: See your successes and ignore your failures. Look back on your life, in the last month, or year, or 5 years. And try to remember your successes. If you have trouble with this, start documenting them — keep a success journal, either in a notebook or online. Document your success each day, or each week. When you look back at what you've accomplished, over a year, you will be amazed. It's an incredibly positive feeling.

5. I'm going to beat so-and-so no matter what — I'm better than him. And there's no way I'll help him succeed — he might beat me.

Problem: Competitiveness assumes that there is a small amount of gold to be had, and I need to get it before he does. It makes us into greedy, back-stabbing, hurtful people. We try to claw our way over people to get to success, because of our competitive feelings. For example, if a blogger wants to have more subscribers than another blogger, he may never link to or mention that other blogger. However, who is to say that my subscribers can't also be yours? People can read and subscribe to more than one blog.

Solution: Learn to see success as something that can be shared, and learn that if we help each other out, we can each have a better chance to be successful. Two people working towards a common goal are better than two people trying to beat each other up to get to that goal. There is more than enough success to go around. Learn to think in terms of abundance rather than scarcity.

6. Dammit! Why do these bad things always happen to me?

Problem: Bad things happen to everybody. If we dwell on them, they will frustrate us and bring us down.

Solution: See bad things as a part of the ebb and flow of life. Suffering is a part of the human condition — but it passes. All pain goes away, eventually. Meanwhile, don't let it hold you back. Don't dwell on bad things, but look forward towards something good in your future. And learn to take the bad things in stride, and learn from them. Bad things are actually opportunities to grow and learn and get stronger, in disguise.

7. You can't do anything right! Why can't you be like ____ ?

Problem: This can be said to your child or your subordinate or your sibling. The problem? Comparing two people, first of all, is always a fallacy. People are different, with different ways of doing things, different strengths and weaknesses, different human characteristics. If we were all the same, we'd be robots. Second, saying negative things like this to another person never helps the situation. It might make you feel better, and more powerful, but in truth, it hurts your relationship, it will actually make you feel negative, and it will certainly make the other person feel negative and more likely to continue negative behavior. Everyone loses.

Solution: Take the mistakes or bad behavior of others as an opportunity to teach. Show them how to do something. Second, praise them for their positive behavior, and encourage their success. Last, and most important, love them for who they are, and celebrate their differences.

8. Your work sucks. It's super lame. You are a moron and I hope you never reproduce.

Problem: I've actually gotten this comment before. It feels wonderful. However, let's look at it not from the perspective of the person receiving this kind of comment but from the perspective of the person giving it. How does saying something negative like this help you? I guess it might feel good to vent if you feel like your time has been wasted. But really, how much of your time has been wasted? A few minutes? And whose fault is that? The bloggers or yours? In truth, making negative comments just keeps you in a negative mindset. It's also not a good way to make friends.

Solution: Learn to offer constructive solutions, first of all. Instead of telling someone their blog sucks, or that a post is lame, offer some specific suggestions for improvement. Help them get better. If you are going to take the time to make a comment, make it worth your time. Second, learn to interact with people in a more positive way — it makes others feel good and it makes you feel better about yourself. And you can make some great friends this way. That's a good thing.

9. Insulting People Back

Problem: If someone insults you or angers you in some way, insulting them back and continuing your anger only transfers their problem to you. This person was probably having a bad day (or a bad year) and took it out on you for some reason. If you reciprocate, you are now having a bad day too. His problem has become yours. Not only that, but the cycle of insults can get worse and worse until it results in violence or other negative consequences — for both of you.

Solution: Let the insults or negative comments of others slide off you like Teflon. Don't let their problem become yours. In fact, try to understand their problem more — why would someone say something like that? What problems are they going through? Having a little empathy for someone not only makes you understand that their comment is not about you, but it can make you feel and act in a positive manner towards them — and make you feel better about yourself in the process.

10. I don't think I can do this — I don't have enough discipline. Maybe some other time.

Problem: If you don't think you can do something, you probably won't. Especially for the big stuff. Discipline has nothing to do with it — motivation and focus has everything to do with it. And if you put stuff off for "some other time", you'll never get it done. Negative thinking like this inhibits us from accomplishing anything.

Solution: Turn your thinking around: you can do this! You don't need discipline. Find ways to make yourself a success at your goal. If you fail, learn from your mistakes, and try again. Instead of putting a goal off for later, start now. And focus on one goal at a time, putting all of your energy into it, and getting as much help from others as you can. You can really move mountains if you start with positive thinking.

6. Give Yourself Time To Relax - While working hard is important, relaxing after a hard day's work is also very important. Organise your time in such a way so that you have the opportunity to relieve stress and tensions. Enroll yourself for meditation / yoga classes, go for a walk, pick up a hobby - the choice is yours to make.

7. Take care of yourself and avoid carrying your work / office related tensions home. Seek satisfaction in whatever you do.

If you feel you are not happy with some aspect of your job, try to find out the reasons for it and then move towards bringing about positive changes.

This some of the moral stories on "Keep your dream"

I have a friend named Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch in San Ysidro. He has let me use his house to put on fund-raising events to raise money for youth at risk programs.
The last time I was there he introduced me by saying, "I want to tell you why I let Jack use my horse. It all goes back to a story about a young man who was the son of an itinerant horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses. As a result, the boy's high school career was continually interrupted. When he was a senior, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

"That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4,000-square- foot house that would sit on a 200-acre dream ranch.

"He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red F with a note that read, `See me after class.'

"The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked, `Why did I receive an F?'

"The teacher said, `This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you'll have to pay large stud fees. There's no way you could ever do it.' Then the teacher added, `If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.'

"The boy went home and thought about it long and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, `Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.' "Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all.

He stated, "You can keep the F and I'll keep my dream."

Monty then turned to the assembled group and said, "I tell you this story because you are sitting in my 4,000-square- foot house in the middle of my 200-acre horse ranch. I still have that school paper framed over the fireplace. He added, "The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week." When the teacher was leaving, he said, "Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids' dreams. Fortunately you had enough gumption not to give up on yours."

"Don't let anyone steal your dreams. Follow your heart, no matter what."

The Road to Success is in the Fast Lane

You succeed based on the quality of your work, the amount of work we can do and one other factor: speed. How fast can you go?

"THE RAPIDITY OF PARTICLE FLOW ALONE DETERMINES POWER." — L. Ron Hubbard

The power and progress of our society is based on speed. When your particle flow (information, services, goods and so on) is slow, the rest of the world speeds on by.

For example, can you imagine working without a computer, telephone, fax machine or the Internet?

Can you imagine traveling without a car or an airplane?
Imagine being in a world where the telegraph and railroad were major improvements.

Business Speed
Speed of particle flow determines the power of a business. The faster the business' particles (service, sales, payment, delivery and so on) the more prosperous it becomes.

For example, you want to buy carpet for your home. Two companies sell the exact carpet you want.

One says, "We can install it in six weeks" and the other says, "We can install it tomorrow." Who do you pick?

If the price and quality are comparable, the company that can deliver the goods the fastest always wins in the end. In many cases, speed is more important than quality or price.

For example, fresh ripe tomatoes from Mexico in February may cost more, but they sell out quickly. Without fast delivery, they are inedible.

Imagine fast service in all areas.
You call and say, "Hello, I was calling to see if you could send someone to fix my furnace."

The furnace company says, "Is ten minutes okay?"

You call your dentist and ask, "How soon can I see the doctor?"

The receptionist says, "How about 1:00 today?"

You call an auto dealer and say, "I'd like a fully-loaded 2003 Midnight Blue Mercedes 450SL with white leather seats."

The dealer says, "It's right here. You can pick it up or we can deliver it to you in an hour."

Business owners who take forever to make decisions soon lose money. Managers who can spot problems and correct them within minutes are valuable and hard to find. Workers who move like lightening are soon promoted.

Companies that can quickly change their direction are the most successful. For example, chain bookstores did not start selling books over the Internet until Amazon.com was in business long enough to work out their systems and take over the market. Chain bookstores lost millions because they took too long to act.

Personal Success
How quickly can you move the particles (communications, projects, services and so on) in your life or work? How fast are you?
When you wait, avoid and make excuses, you kill your speed. You delay your success.

When you respond quickly, act without delay and complete tasks faster than anyone else, you have power.

For example, high-school graduates Lynn and Chris both want to become school teachers.

Lynn says, "I've got all those years of school in front of me. I'm taking a year off to ride my bike around Europe before I start."
Chris says, "I can't wait to teach. I'm taking classes this summer and will get my degree in three years."

Who do you think becomes the other's principal?
The only road to significant success is in the fast lane.

Ten Tips for Speeding up Your Success
1. Jump into projects as soon as possible.

2. Act quickly on opportunities. If you see what you want, jump on it before you lose the chance.

3. Push yourself to walk faster, talk faster, read faster and move faster.

4. Keep up your speed with good habits: sufficient sleep, good food, regular exercise and so on.

5. Reduce or eliminate people or things that delay or stop you from moving quickly.

6. Whenever you think something can't be done quickly, ask "Why not?"

7. Constantly look for faster methods to get the same result.

8. Send and return communications with as little delay as possible.

9. Set tough deadlines for completing tasks and make them.

10. Challenge yourself by taking on more work than ever and getting it done in less time than ever.

12 Ways to Lighten Up

Are you having fun? Do you get a thrill from your work? Do you enjoy waking up each morning?

Myths about work can hurt your progress. "Work is not supposed to be fun." "You must buckle down and get serious."

Perhaps the biggest myth of all: "People will think I'm important if I act seriously." Yet getting serious creates problems: stress, worry, anxiety, emotional pain, drudgery and failure.

Resolving problems by getting more serious is like fixing a computer with a hammer. The harder you try, the worse the problem becomes.

"When life becomes serious, a man becomes less cause and greater effect. If life gets really serious, his value drops to practically zero. Driving a car can become such serious business that one can wreck the car. Running a business can become so serious as to make it fail. There is a direct connection between insanity and seriousness. " "It is only when an individual progresses in life to a point where much seriousness is attached to things that he begins to have a hard time. The ancient Italian really knew what he was about when he considered that the only psychotherapy was laughter." — L. Ron Hubbard

12 Ways to Lighten Up

Approaching your life with a non-serious attitude gives you a clearheaded view of difficulties and the energy to deal with them. Problems are easier to solve, people are more cooperative and you feel more relaxed. You probably live longer and more successfully, as well.

Try these ideas until you find one that lightens you up.

1. Deliberately turn a molehill into a mountain. Make a big deal out of a little problem. "I would feel much better if these papers were stacked exactly like this! Not like that! Like this! Not this! This!"

2. Ask yourself, "Is getting serious about this situation really going to improve it?"

3. Focusing on the positives. "What is right about this situation?" "What else is right?" "What else?"

4. Consider a complete, major change. For example, go back to school, move to the ocean, start a new career.

5. Ask yourself, "When I'm on my deathbed, will I be glad I was so serious about _______?"

6. A challenging game is much better than no game at all. So consider losing all aspects of the problem. Examples: You feel serious about family problems. You ask yourself, "Well, what if I had no family at all?" You feel serious about your investments. You ask yourself, "What if I had no money to invest?"

7. The size of your problem may match the size of your game. So get a bigger game. For example, if you get uptight about paper clips being in the wrong drawer, your game size is tiny. Double your amount of responsibility. Set some huge goals. Succeed by thinking much, much bigger.

8. Stop trying to solve the problem that is making you so serious. Certain types of problems solve themselves if you leave them alone. Your problem may be one of those.

9. Compare what you are doing to other careers. Imagine being a septic tank drainer or a tax collector.

10. Make everyone around you lighten up.

11. Look at bizarre solutions. What is the craziest way you could solve your problem? What solution, if it worked, would make you laugh out loud?

12. Act stupid for a minute. Let down your hair. Stop being so darn important for a while. Be a goof!

The Ten Steps

The main motivator for executives to chase after CEO positions at Fortune 500 companies is financial security. Forbes magazine reported that CEOs at Fortune 500 companies earned an average of $10.9 million in 2006 with $5.4 million coming from company stocks and options. The total compensation for Fortune 500 CEOs in 2006 was $5.4 billion, demonstrating the financial boon of becoming a chief executive officer.

Your goal of becoming a CEO of a Fortune 500 company cannot be achieved without a sterling resume, the right education and a willingness to work harder than your competitors.

Strive for the Top Spot at a Fortune 500 Company

Step One
Start on your path to becoming a CEO by pursuing an undergraduate degree in your desired field. Work hard to complete general education requirements and major coursework with top grades to improve your academic qualifications. Augment your undergraduate education with internships and study abroad opportunities that will broaden your world view.

Step Two
Enhance your chances of becoming a Fortune 500 CEO by receiving a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from a respected program. An advanced degree in your academic field will not provide the leadership skills and grounding needed for executive-level positions. MIT's Sloan School of Business and other institutions have educated generations of chief executive, financial and technology officers.

Step Three
Write a concise resume that shows your leadership, communication and organizational skills as you apply for mid-level positions. Your resume should highlight managerial and supervisory positions going back to the beginning of your working life that appeal to hiring managers. Attach an extensive list of references to your resume to demonstrate a positive reputation among former employers.

Step Four
Amass a wardrobe of black, blue and brown suits and accessories that will impress your managers as you start your career. Your wardrobe should include enough matching shoes, belts, shirts and jackets for an entire week without replication. Continue to add to this wardrobe as you earn your first few paychecks to avoid wearing the same clothes week after week.

Step Five
Aim for leadership opportunities at every stage of your career to prepare for a career as a CEO. Mail-room clerks, administrative assistants and salespeople interested in becoming executives should volunteer for project leadership positions. These positions can be cited during job interviews and evaluations to demonstrate your qualifications for management jobs.

Step Six
Pursue weekend and night seminars in business management from industry groups such as the American Management Association. These seminars are used by aspiring executives and entrepreneurs trying to integrate traditional management practices with new technology. Look for similar seminars through your company's human resources department to increase your knowledge of business management within plain view of executives, trainers and managers.

Step Seven
Exploit every opportunity to meet with the current CEO and other officers to learn about the keys to successful management. Attend lectures, optional meetings and company-sponsored events where you can spend a few minutes chatting with executives outside of the office.

Step Eight
Cultivate contacts within your industry to increase your profile while developing references for future advancement. Meet with managers, engineers and designers from rival companies at conferences to learn about the industry from a new perspective. Stay in touch with former employers, interns and colleagues to learn about executive-level opportunities with different employers.

Step Nine
Advocate for a particular viewpoint on your industry through traditional and new media outlets. Create a personal blog separate from your company to espouse your views on industry trends, competing companies and other information without damaging your employer's reputation. Ask your employer if you can submit articles to business magazines, such as Inc., on the company's behalf to support new initiatives.

Step Ten
Look for advancement to the position of CEO within your industry instead of rising slowly through your first employer. Your path to a job as CEO of a Fortune 500 company may rest with a competitor instead of loyally toiling away for decades in middle-management positions. Keep an eye out for executive-level openings within your industry to find faster career paths.

Advertise

Yelling with gusto used to be the best way to advertise your wares. There was plenty of media and if you had plenty of money, you were set.

Today, of course, yelling doesn't work so well.
What works is leading. Leading a (relatively) small group of people. Taking them somewhere they'd like to go. Connecting them to one another.

I say relatively because there are few products that need everyone in order to succeed. A tiny sliver of the market is enough. Bill Niman used to run Niman Ranch, a cooperative raising meat for fancy restaurants and markets. That was already a sliver of the huge huge market for meat. He moved on to start BN, a 1000 acre farm raising goats for a subset of that subset. It's enough.

It's enough if the tribe you lead knows about you and cares about you and wants to follow you. It's enough if your leadership changes things, galvanizes the audience and puts the status quo under stress.

And it's enough if the leadership you provide makes a difference.
Go down the list of online success stories. The big winners are organizations that give tribes of people a platform to connect.
Go down the list of fashion businesses or business to business organizations. Same thing. Charities, too. Churches, certainly.

It's so tempting to believe that we are merely broadcasters, putting together a play list and hurtling it out to the rest of the world. Louder is better. But we're not. Now we're leaders.
People want to connect. They want you to do the connecting.
