How to Be More Popular

Malaysian Pay Per Click

Many people believe the route to success is to be interesting—to show off or act like someone else. For example, many teenagers can't understand why they are unpopular. They learned as children that to get attention they should act up a little; to be as interesting as
possible. Yet acting interesting does not make a teenager popular. To handle their unpopularity, they might decide to despise people or become loners. Or they try harmful acts to gain respect: smoking, drinking, graffiti, shoplifting, drugs, sex, guns and so on.

Acting interesting can ruin your adult life as well. Show-off employees, self-centered managers and pompous business owners rarely do well for long.

The secret to popularity is not to be interesting, but to be interested.

"When a person becomes terribly interesting he has lots of problems, believe me. That is the chasm which is crossed by all of your celebrities, anybody who is foolish enough to become famous. He crosses over from being interested in life to being interesting. And
people who are interesting are really no longer interested in life. It's very baffling to some young fellow why he can't make some beautiful girl interested in him. Well, she is not interested, she is interesting. " — L. Ron Hubbard

If you are an actor on stage, you are interesting while acting.Seminar speakers are interesting. Comedians, models and magicians are interesting.

Yet in real life, on a one-on-one basis, interesting people are irritating. They only do things to get your attention and admiration. They believe they are on stage acting for an audience of one.

If you want people to cooperate with you, to like you or to open up to you, you must be interested.

Instead of focusing on yourself, you start to focus on others. You notice what makes them happy or unhappy. Your attention comes off of you and onto others.

When your thoughts are more on others than on yourself, you feel little stress. You act and respond with more intelligence. Your production level increases and you have more fun.

When you are interested, people love your interest in them. They want to be around you. You are popular.

Five Ways to Be More Interested

1. Strive to shift your attention from yourself onto other people or objects. This is a great stress reliever.

2. Find things about people that interest you. Force yourself to look for interesting things. Soon you will automatically take interest in people without thinking about it.

3. If you catch yourself acting like someone else, you are being interesting. Simply get interested in the person in front of you and you'll feel more natural. You are most effective when you are simply being yourself.

4. When someone makes you nervous or shy, get interested in them. Take your attention off of yourself and on to others. With practice, you will be calm, even bold.

5. Focus on how you can help others. Let your interest in helping people replace your tendency to act interesting. Your effectiveness and popularity will soar.

Is There a Difference Between Training and Learning?

Malaysian Pay Per Click

Two definitions - training and learning

I define 'training':
Training is the conscious and planned process of transferring knowledge, skills and attitudes to others.
The concept of transfer here is critical, as is the element of planning.

I define 'learning':
Learning is the processing and assimilation of what we hear, see or experience that alters or improves our knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The combination of knowledge, skills and attitudes is behaviour. If someone trains us, or we learn something new or different, it is our behaviour that is affected.
If our behaviour is changed, we have learnt something.
Training is active - it is conscious and planned - it does not just happen.

What is the best way to learn?
Should someone train us or should we go off and try to learn something new by ourselves?
In recent years, self-directed learning has gained increased attention. Some people felt that it was better for some people to 'discover' something rather than be taught.

I believe both learning and training are important. In this informal learning article, I explained that about 70% of learning was informal. Informal learning is very helpful.

I probably have a bias, but I believe organisations should have a planned approach to the development of their people. If training needs are identified, they should be addressed in a timely manner. A well planned training event can do this, particularly if the trainer can identify the key issues to be addressed.

Training can save time. In a computer software training session, which is best: asking the trainer a question or looking for the answer in the software 'help' feature? (I do have a bias here - having recently installed some new software, I much preferred to ask the direct question. I find a lot of software 'help' features very unhelpful - the discovery learning process does not work all the time).

A good trainer can use discovery learning methods in a structured way. Time is the critical element. Learning should be maximised in the time available.
Too many organisations are relying too heavily on informal learning. Planned training can be more efficient and time effective.

Summary
Training is something you do. Learning is something that happens. Learning should be the major outcome of training. Sometimes having a trainer speeds up the learning process.
Training is successful if learning occurs. Changed behaviour in the workplace is essential if organisations are going to grow and develop. Planned training that relates to the current organisational direction can make a real difference.

Personal reflection
Do you have a personal training and development plan?
Do you place the right balance on training and learning?

Action items
>From a business viewpoint, is your approach to training effective?
Should this issue be discussed at your next team and/or management meeting?

How do you know if a person is willing to attain self improvement
This is a question with no definite answer. It will all depend on the individual.

Many people have goals, dreams or ambitions but do not know how to go about achieving them. They may have thought about what would make up self improvement and their ideal life, but have no idea how to even begin to make the plans and take the actions required to make them a reality.

Some people have a vague idea on how to go about self improvement. These are the ones that believe that if only they had a better job, or had been given better opportunities, or met the love of their life, or whatever else, everything would be fine and they would be happy.

They feel that their happiness or lack of happiness is decided by external factors and their thoughts and actions are of little consequence.

Some believe that if only they had more money they could have whatever they want and be on their way to self improvement.

They may have spent little time thinking about what they actually want from life, and do not really believe there is anything they can do to create their fuzzy version of utopia anyway, apart from buying more lottery tickets.

Other people do not even know what they actually want from their lives and may even have little idea what would really makes them happy. They seem to just drift from day to day, week to week, month to month, and year to year, and do little more than just about get by.

They may have seemingly secure jobs and be earning enough to live relatively comfortable lives. They seem happy enough and have no great ambition to achieve anything more from their lives than they currently have.

Is self improvement important?
The reality is that throughout our lives we are all constantly growing and developing. Circumstances make us grow and develop, even if we do not make the conscious decision to do so.

Up to a certain age, we learn through formal education and we continue to learn through our experiences for the rest of our lives. We have to learn and grow to deal with everything that life throws at us. We all have to go through self improvement.

Modern life moves at a dramatically faster pace than at anytime in history. For anyone living in modern society there are more opportunities to do anything that you want to do with your life than ever before.

But there is also more competition than ever before, and ever changing technology means that there really are few, if any "jobs for life" anymore. It is now normal not only to change jobs quite often throughout our working lives, but even to completely change careers and industries.

Because the workplace is so competitive, people who are ambitious and hungry for success know they need to learn new skills and knowledge to keep ahead of the pack. To attain this, self improvement is needed.

These are the people that will be most likely to keep their jobs, or progress within their chosen field or that will be readily employable in different organizations or industries. A commitment to self improvement and personal growth may well be the deciding factor in how anyone's future will turn out.

Top Strategies for Avoiding Burnout- Coping with the Stress in Your Life

If you're in a highly psychologically demanding job you then your risk of burn out is high. You are up to 75% more likely to suffer from anxiety or depression. Stress is the leading determinant of poor health from sleep disorders and headaches to low energy.

What can you do to find some relief from prolonged stress?
The first step that can lead to a complete turn around for you is to acknowledge your situation. Simply by accepting that you are under stress can bring great insight. It can allow you to start making the changes you need to get through.

Once you've had the insight that allows you to see your situation clearly it's time to make time for yourself. It is impossible to be of help to others unless you can learn to be kind and understanding towards yourself. Put aside time on a daily basis to fulfill your needs and your needs only.

One you've made this space for yourself there are a number of really good tools that can help you to create calm in your life. A really simple one to incorporate into a daily walk is to focus on your breathing. Whenever your mind jumps back into thinking mode bring your attention back to your breath. Keep doing this during your walk and you will feel the stress release.

Your breath can also be of help during the time stress is hitting you. You will notice as your stress levels increase your breath will become shallow, faster and you may even start to breath through your mouth without realizing. This is the time to consciously change your breathing. Take deep breaths through your nose filling your belly first then working up through your chest. Fill your lungs completely and without stopping breathe out in a continuous stream through your mouth.

With a focus on changing your perception of work analyze what you love and what you hate about your job. Identify the problem areas and one by one look for ways that you could change them. Be sure to give more focus though to the aspects of your job that you love.
It doesn't have to be perfect. Learn to accept less than perfection. Work at 90% of your capacity and be ok with it.

Finally, set your limits. Do not make yourself available 24/7. Turn off your computer and turn off your phone and give yourself the down time you need and deserve.
